glimpses into the life of a 20-something jersey girl living in the great white north.

saturday night's alright

so i had a great memorial day weekend overall.
josh came down friday night.
my cousin and her 3 friends came down saturday morning.
those 4 headed off to the yankees game.
me josh dad and joey put the boat in the water.
then josh and i went and met up with the 4 girls in nyc.

saturday night:
- went to jekyll and hyde's. [good food. funny times. not worth the price. apparently they take the liberty of charging you $12 for 'entertainment fees'. jerks.]
- walked around the village. [saw some shady characters. walked in circles cause apparently jerome couldn't remember where the street was we were meeting people on.]
- went to a bar in the village. [ended up sitting next to a table full of british boys. we ended up playing drinking games with guys from london in nyc. quite hilarious.]
- took the train home. [after meeting a sketchy guy in the subway who really liked amy. and then falling asleep on the train and being woken up at 3am by drunk loud girls that we wanted to kick in the teeth.]
- got back to my house at 3:30am. [the girls passed out on the couch.]

sunday:
- the 4 girls went back to the city. [they're crazy! it was so damned hot out.]
- me josh joey and dad went back to the boat. [oh. the trailer for the boat had a wheel seize so we had to go back and fix it... plus take the boat out for another spin.]
- came home. [cooked lots and lots of food.]
- took at nap.
- had a bbq at my house that we just kept inviting people over for. [we fed 17 people. and i ended up playing bar tender for half the night making pina coladas.]
- us girls passed out again on the couch. [danielle and i stayed up and watched e! true hollywood story about american idol first.]
- joey and love stayed up till 2am playing with the fire pit in the backyard. [crazy kids.]
- 11 people slept in my house.

monday:
- woke up at 9am. [finished wedding invitations. took me about an hour.]
- had breakfast. [11 people around my kitchen table. its fine for maye 8... 11 is really tight.]
- hung out around the house.
- josh left at noon. [*sniff*]
- the rest of us [sans joey and love] went out on the boat. [yay for sunburn!!]
- came home. [ate lots of food.]
- the girls left.
- me mom and dad watched 'desperation' by stephen king. [creeeeeeeepy.]
- mom and i caught up on 'lost'.

THE END.

oy. crazy weekend.
but really good.
:c)

i need like a week to catch up on sleep.
but i have a 3 day work week.
cause friday i'm driving to buffalo for my first shower!

wedding

here is my favorite picture that i took from the wedding this weekend:

funny part is.
they weren't posing.
she was leaning her head on him because she was tired.
and he kissed her.
i just timed it right.

i think its gorgeous.

quote o' the day

Found this on some random blog. It made me smile.

I think poetry, therefore iamb.

How sweet it is...

to be loved by Josh.

So I had my wonderful trip up to Canada this weekend. We had a wedding to go to, which, of course, coincided with Canada's Victoria Day weekend. So I took Monday off and enjoyed the weekend with Josh [and wedding planning].

But on Friday, I had to wait until around 7 to leave my house in Jersey to get up there. Well I didn't have to. I chose to. My brother's senior prom was on Friday and I didn't feel right not seeing him and his date off. [Sidenote: My brother decided to wear a white tux to prom. With a peach vest and peach tie because his date was wearing a peach dress. How come guys I went to high school with weren't that daring?] Anyway. So by the time I got up to St Catharines it was about... hm... 12:45. I wanted to go straight to bed. But Josh wouldn't let me. He had a surprise.

Now. Some of you know, most of you don't, that I love stars. One of my dreams is to dance under the stars. Like, slow dance in the middle of a field with music playing. Like in the movies.

Well Josh knows this.

And so I get into the apartment and he forces me into the bedroom because he needs to get something ready in the living room. So I wait... and he comes in and hands me a CD that is titled Dance Under the Stars with Me Vol. 1. So I giggle and get all excited. He takes my hand and leads me into the other room. And I stop.

He had taken a ton of glow in the dark stars. Put holes in some of them. He hung those ones from the ceiling and the fan. And then took the rest, put them all over the walls and the doors.

So he asked me to dance.

And we danced.

Check that off the list of things I want to do before I die.

Man. I love him.

engrish

So I usually hate it when people butcher the English language. It comes with being an English major, I guess. The only exception to that is when I find [or read] Engrish.

Take my fortune from a fortune cookie today:
Wow! A secret message from your teeth!

Whaaaaa?
It doesn't make any sense.
But I find it hilarious.

I wonder what my teeth want to tell me.

new..

format.
:c)
Tthis is what happens when I get bored at work.

Anyone have any clue as to why in IE the sidebar is messed up, but in Firefox it looks fine?

I know the colors of my old posts are too light.
When I get uber bored [and my boss isn't around] I'll go fix them.
Till then, squint, or highlight.
Sowie!!!

Give me a topic to discuss.
Something interesting... or not.

when i wear my hair down...

it makes my face look skinnier.

boredom ensues

Here I am. At work.
This is one of the only sites that I can actually access because apparently GE doesn't want their employees messing around on the internet [or something like that]. So I figured I'd actually write something.

Wedding planning is going quite well. I can't believe its almost 2 months until the wedding. I'll be a married woman soon. What the heck? When did I get old enough to get married? Sometimes I feel like I'm a 18 year old who has suddenly woken up at the age of 21. Life has gone by so fast these past few years. I wish there was a way to make it slow down.
We ordered invitations this weekend. I have to get ahold of people and gather their addresses so they can get the invitiations. *sigh*
We're trying to figure out center pieces and favors. We found things we like, but the centerpieces we like are really expensive. But we might just have to settle because I've looked into doing them ourselves and they're more expensive to buy all the stuff and do it that way.
My girls dresses come in next month. That'll be wonderful because I'll have more of an idea of what the day is actually going to look like. Hopefully that will be enough time for all of the girls get them fitted. I'm only really worried about Michelle because she's in England. We'll figure that out when it comes.

This summer is crazy. I have stuff going on every weekend until the wedding, and pretty much every weekend afterwards. I have a wedding to go to this weekend in St. Kitts. Then the weekend after, Josh is down in Jersey along with my cousin and her three friends. Then the first three weekends in June are all shower weekends. June 3 - Buffalo, June 10 - Jersey, June 17 - London, ON. Yeah. Craziness. Then Joey's graduation from high school is the next weekend. Then we have 4th of July/Canada Day weekend. Then my birthday weekend. The next weekend we head up to St Kitts as a family to stay for the week before the wedding. Then I get MARRIED! After that, honeymoon for two weeks. Come back. A week in St Kitts in our apartment, then heading to Jersey for the second reception. Then camping either the next weekend or the one after that. And suddenly we're into the school year.

*sigh*

I don't think I've ever been so busy in my life.

I probably should go get some work done so I have something to show my boss on Wednesday when he's back.

06 May 2006

so some of you know about my neighbor.
cookie.
she was diagnosed with als [lou gherig's disease] earlier this year.
if you don't know anything about the disease.
its fatal.
basically you lose neurological functions until you become paralyzed and you can't breathe on your own anymore.
yeah. lovely. isn't it?

well i hadn't seen cookie until today.
dad and i were going out to do some errands and we saw her and her husband [roy].

oh my goodness.
all i wanted to do is cry.

i can't even describe how it affected me.
there aren't words.

she has lost all ability to speak.
but her heart is still there.
oh god yes it is.

this woman is so amazing.
she has such a love for people.
i love her so much.

she told me how she loves my father.
and she told me that one day i'll have a relationship like her and her husband.
and take fun pictures [she showed me pictures they had taken].
and then she told me...
get this...
wisest advice in the world.

she told me...
to...
make love last.

how amazing is that advice?
seriously.
so simple.
and so true.

i can't get over it.

but this poor woman and her husband.
i can't figure it out.
why?
why do they have to suffer?
i can't even imagine going through that.
she's so strong.
she's so amazing.
why?

26 April 2006

i've figured it out!

so my brother sister and i are odd.
as if you couldn't figure out that i'm odd.

but yeah.

i've figured out what it comes from.

enter exhibit one:

so. we loved beetlejuice as kids. still do.
so our parents bought us this lovely toy.
not only is it a creepy toy of beetlejuice.
but. it also has a pull chord and talks.
and if a talking beetlejuice isn't creepy enough for you kids...
his head spins.
you crank his head once around [or more if you're into that]
and push a button on his back.
and his head spins around and around.

seriously.
creepiness.
not a good toy for children.

and now onto exhibit two:

this wonderful toy is called jibber jabber.
he's looks innocent.
but he's not.
remember those tubes things that had that thing in it and if you tipped the tube, it made a fun noise?
well jibber jabber has two in his head.
running in opposite directions.

the point of the toy:
grab him by the neck.
then shake violently.

result:
annoyed parents and children who like to strangle their toys.

onto exhibit three:

glo worm.
[not the key chain version]

now many of you will have fond memories of glo worm.
i know i did.
as did my brother [4 yrs younger]
as did my sister [7 yrs younger].

now the issue with this toy in my family...
it still has the original batteries.
and he still glows.
i'm not sure how old i was when i got it..
not more than 2 probably.
and now i'm going on 22.
that's 20 years.
and the batteries still function quite well.

we're afraid to open the back.

there ends my realization as to what is wrong with my brother sister and i.
i thought you all would enjoy.
or at least get a laugh.

:c)

mental throw up

we're calling this mental throw up because i have so much crap running around my head and can't concentrate on studying for my wonderful [*rolls eyes*] Romantics exam tomorrow.

- i sat in traffic for over an hour yesterday on my drive back from jersey. so not only did i have to drive 6 hrs. but once i got to downtown buffalo... i had to wait over an hour to get from downtown [by the church st. exit] to get over the peace bridge. of course i was making the trip alone. and i had to pee. apparently everyone and their mother wanted to go to the states for easter weekend. forcing me to pray that my bladder would make it all the way back to st catharines.

- ever have that feeling where you have a ton of pent up energy but dont have the motivation to go running or something, but the energy won't let you concentrate? well... welcome to my life right now. i couldn't sleep last night for a long time. went to bed around 11:30... around 10 to 12 i got up and read for awhile. that didn't put me to sleep so i ended up playing online till about 1:30. then laid in bed till i finally fell asleep. ugh. this sucks. i feel like going running, but i can't. i don't have the motivation and i need to study for this exam.

- i really don't want to write this exam tomorrow. its not that it will be a hard exam. but its my only exam. and i know my stuff. so its more of hassle because i have to get up early, be at the school, sit in a gym where concentration is nearly impossible, and write a 3 hour exam. yippee. oh. and when i'm done with that... gotta come home and write an essay.

- wedding. 95 days away. seriously. 95. that's not a lot. we've gotta get a lot of stuff done. especially because i go home for the summer this weekend. and i want to make sure most of the stuff is done. grrr. i wish i could take a time out from life and get it all done.

- i just feel like going into a room and screaming. that might make me feel better.

*sigh*
maybe that will clear my brain so i can study.
if not... i'm going to the mall to find josh an anniversary present.
i hate school.

my brain hurts.

Rain

So its been a long time since I've seen a thunderstorm. There's one going on outside right now. And its amazing.

I just took a moment to step back and just wonder at it all and life. I was standing on Josh's balcony [luckily the wind blows the rain away from the balcony]. I just stood there for about 20 minutes and just watched.

I watched the rain as it fell. Watched how it fell harder and softer sometimes. I watched how it looked like the water out of a hose does where it hits certain areas harder than others. I watched the lightening. I watched the clouds fly by with the crazy wind. There was a plastic bag that the wind caught that flew all the way up to above me... and I'm on the fourth floor. I watched Tom [the fix-it guy] chase a bag around and then run for cover when it started pouring again. I watched as the kids running from the high school across the street suddenly picked up speed because of the rain. I laughed at them because they were drenched. I watched the Oriental guy next door come out and take a picture of the clouds [I didn't find anything exciting about the clouds, but that goes to show you that he appreciates things I don't]. I watched cars fly by.

And I listened.

I listened to the thunder [still am]. I listened to the cars fly by in the rain [I love that sound]. I listened to the kids from the high school laughing and yelling at each other to hurry up to get inside. I listened to the wind as it blew me away.

And I smelled.

I smelled the rain. God that's an amazing smell.

I felt so calm about everything. I still do.
Man. I love thunderstorms.

I feel like everything is put into perspective now. Can't explain it. It just feels so.

[I hope the storm doesn't cool everything off too much... I want to go rollerblading tonight]

Funny

This is hilarious. I got a good laugh out of it.

Enjoy:

What do they teach them in school these days?!
The following excerpts are 10 and 11 year-old answers to history tests and Sunday school quizzes. They were collected over a period of three years by two teachers. Read carefully for grammar, misplaced modifiers, and of course, spelling!

Ancient Egypt was old. It was inhabited by gypsies and mummies who all wrote in hydraulics. They lived in the Sarah Dessert. The climate of the Sarah is such that all the inhabitants have to live elsewhere.

Moses led the Hebrew slaves to the Red Sea where they made unleavened bread, which is bread made without any ingredients. Moses went up on Mount Cyanide to get the ten commandos. He died before he ever reached Canada but the commandos made it

Solomon had three hundred wives and seven hundred porcupines. He was an actual hysterical figure as well as being in the bible. It sounds like he was sort of busy too.

The Greeks were a highly sculptured people, and without them we wouldn't have history. The Greeks also had myths. A myth is a young female moth.

Socrates was a famous old Greek teacher who went around giving people advice. They killed him. He later died from an overdose of wedlock which is apparently poisonous. After his death, his career suffered a Dramatic decline.

In the first Olympic games, Greeks ran races, jumped, hurled biscuits, and threw the java. The games were messier then than they show on TV now.

Julius Caesar extinguished himself on the battlefields of Gaul. The Ides of March murdered him because they thought he was going to be made king. Dying, he gasped out "Same to you, Brutus."

Joan of Arc was burnt to a steak and was canonized by Bernard Shaw for reasons I don't really understand. The English and French still have problems.

It was an age of great inventions and discoveries. Gutenberg invented removable type and the Bible. Another important invention was the circulation of blood.

Sir Walter Raleigh is a historical figure because he invented cigarettes and started smoking.

Sir Francis Drake circumcised the world with a 100 foot clipper which was very dangerous to all his men.

The greatest writer of the Renaissance was William Shakespeare. He was born in the year 1564, supposedly on his birthday. He never made much money and is famous only because of his plays. He wrote tragedies, comedies, and hysterectomies, all in Islamic pentameter.

Writing at the same time as Shakespeare was Miguel Cervantes. He wrote Donkey Hotel. The next great author was John Milton. Milton wrote Paradise Lost. Since then no one ever found it.

Delegates from the original 13 states formed the Contented Congress. Thomas Jefferson, a Virgin, and Benjamin Franklin were two singers of the Declaration of Independence. Franklin discovered electricity by rubbing two cats backward and also declared, "A horse divided against itself cannot stand." He was a naturalist for sure. Franklin died in 1790 and is still dead.

Johann Bach wrote a great many musical compositions and had a large number of children. In between he practiced on an old spinster which he kept up in his attic.

Bach died from 1750 to the present. Bach was the most famous composer in the world and so was Handel. Handle was half German, half Italian, and half English. He was very large.

Beethoven wrote music even though he was deaf. He was so deaf that he wrote loud music and became the father of rock and roll. He took long walks in the forest even when everyone was calling for him. Beethoven expired in 1827 and later died for this.

The nineteenth century was a time of a great many thoughts and inventions. People stopped reproducing by hand and started reproducing by machine. The invention of the steamboat caused a network of rivers to spring up.

Louis Pasteur discovered a cure for rabbits but I don't know why.

Charles Darwin was a naturalist. He wrote the Organ of the Species. It was very long, people got upset about it and had trials to see if it was really true. He sort of said God's days were not just 24 hours but without watches who knew anyhow? I don't get it.

Karl Marx was one of the Marx Brothers. The other three were in the movies. Karl made speeches and started revolutions. Someone in the family had to have a job, I guess.

Oranges Are Not The Only Fruit

I just finished reading that book for my Contemporary Lit course. Quite good. I'd recommend it.

My favorite quote in it is...

If there's such a thing as spiritual adultery, my mother was a whore

[Rap]

Rap

Note to self. If Natalie Portman releases a CD....

Don't buy it.

There are the things...

That need to make the news.

J-Mac's meaningful message for autism

Its an article from ESPN talking about J-Mac [Jason McElwain] and his amazing story of basketball. Not only is there an article, but there's a video that talks to his coach, dad, fellow teammates and of course J-Mac himself. Seriously. This is absolutely amazing. I cried during the video and I don't cry.

Why can't the news report on things like this in the world. There are so many amazing and wonderful things going in this world. Why is it that all of the bad things make the press? It depresses me.

This boy did nothing but play the sport he loves. His coach did nothing but give the kid a chance. Not only is there the amazing sense of accomplishment that J-Mac feels for scoring 20 points and making 6 three pointers at the end of the game. But it also provides hope for the autistic and the families of those who are autistic. If J-Mac can do this, then what's to say there isn't a place where other autistic people can't accel.

*Sigh*

That story made my day... actually.. my week.
